Sense Forms vs Gravity Forms

Gravity Forms is a mature, paid, developer-oriented platform. Sense Forms is free and built around attribution. The honest comparison.

Gravity Forms is the most established commercial form plugin in WordPress. It is genuinely good, and this comparison would be dishonest if it pretended otherwise.

Where Gravity Forms is stronger

Depth of functionality. Multi-page forms, calculations, conditional pricing, entry workflows, partial entries, signatures, surveys, quizzes. Sense Forms does none of these.

Ecosystem. A large add-on catalogue plus a decade of third-party integrations. If you need a form that talks to a specific CRM, someone has probably already built it.

Developer API. An extensive hooks and filters system, and thorough documentation for it. Sense Forms currently exposes two filters.

Track record. Years of production use on large sites, with the stability that implies.

If you need approval workflows, complex calculations, or an integration that exists as a Gravity add-on, this comparison ends here โ€” use Gravity Forms.

Where Sense Forms differs

Attribution is the default, not an integration. Every Sense Forms submission carries its traffic source, all five UTM parameters, referrer, landing page, pages viewed and device. No configuration.

Gravity Forms can capture UTM parameters through dynamic population into hidden fields. It works, but it must be set up per form, per field, and only captures what is in the URL when the form loads โ€” so a visitor who reads three pages before enquiring arrives with nothing.

Traffic source classification and visitor journey are not available at all, in any tier or add-on. These are different from UTM capture: they cover the majority of visits, which carry no UTM parameters.

Price. Gravity Forms is commercial with annual licence tiers and no free version. Sense Forms is free, with no paid tier currently available.

Choosing between them

The decision is usually not about forms at all.

Choose Gravity Forms if the form itself is complex โ€” multiple pages, calculated fields, conditional pricing, an approval process, or an integration that already exists as an add-on.

Choose Sense Forms if your forms are straightforward but you cannot currently tell which marketing produces enquiries. A contact form and a quote request do not need calculations. They need to arrive with their origin attached.

Some sites reasonably run both: Gravity for a complex application form, Sense Forms for lead capture where attribution matters.

Migrating

No automated importer exists. Rebuilding a simple form takes a few minutes; a complex Gravity form with conditional logic and calculations may not be reproducible at all, which is a reason to keep it where it is.

Existing Gravity entries stay in their own tables and are unaffected.
